Inside every catastrophic thing is an equally phenomenal thing. I’ve decided to do a series of posts on the good that has and will come from the world shut-down.
Reason #1 The World Shut-Down Is a Good Thing:
SIMPLIFY
We hear the word “essential” a lot… only “essential” businesses which employ “essential workers” are open. We each must reflect upon what is essential for us. Is what the world views as essential the only things that are essential?
A lot of things we thought were “essential” really aren’t essential, and perhaps things we never considered essential are vital. When you let the superfluous things out of your life, you learn that you really don’t need that much “stuff.”
With a little reflection, we can each see where we’ve been cluttering our lives with too much distraction, activity, or a never-ending quest for “more and better” that really isn’t necessary and is only a distraction.
This reduction to simplicity makes us more grateful. None of us will ever look at TP the same way again… or the ability to go out to a concert, or dinner and a movie, or to be able to go to church or take a trip. Giving friends hugs, handshakes or even a pat on the arm or shoulder has become priceless. How many little things have we taken for granted that we will never take for granted again?
Simplifying our lives creates a vacuum. Nature hates a void. What are we filling that void with?
God went to a LOT of trouble to clear space in our lives. Let’s be VERY selective about what we put into that space.
I’ll continue with that thought in the next post…
