I wrote the lyrics for this song Saturday when I was sitting in the field where I used to live. I read the lyrics to my friend Judi G. Reid today and she suggested I set it to “Blessed Assurance,” With some slight adapting, it fit perfectly.
“The Great I AM” Lyrics
Words by Marnie L. Pehrson
Sung to Blessed Assurance
1 Wind blew my hair.
It whipped in my face
Green blades of grass
danced in their place.
Look to the heavens
My heart feels fear.
Dark clouds gather o’er
He says, “I AM here.”
Chorus
My name’s Jehovah,
Jesus the Christ
Redeemer, Savior, and glorious king
Son of the Father, the Great I Am
I Am in every little thing.
2 This is your message.
This is your song.
This is your heartbeat from now on.
Rains gather black, a tree limb falls near.
Lightening cracks. He says, “I AM here.”
Chorus
My name’s Jehovah,
Jesus the Christ
Redeemer, Savior, and glorious king
Son of the Father, the Great I Am
I Am in every little thing.
3 A shaft of light parts clouds Left to right
Winds blow for hours into the night.
“In every season, in every place,
In every blessing, every disgrace.
Chorus
My name’s Jehovah,
Jesus the Christ
Redeemer, Savior, and glorious king
Son of the Father, the Great I Am
I Am in every little thing.
4 This is my message.
This is my song.
This is my heartbeat
From now on.
His bow beams From ground to heaven
Saying I’m free, Redeemed, forgiven
Chorus
My name’s Jehovah,
Jesus the Christ
Redeemer, Savior, and glorious king
Son of the Father, the Great I Am
I Am in every little thing.
Music is from an arranged Hymn from Hal Leonard’s Favorite Hymns for Solo Guitar.
