You are a creator. Life is all about creation – creating outcomes, creating beauty, creating love, creating life.
I have a form of prayer / meditation I use where I imagine myself coming into the presence of Jesus Christ. I go with a clear question in mind of what I want to ask Him and we chat. It’s sort of like a life coaching session with Jesus. I’ve gotten some wonderful insights and direction over the years by using this type of prayer / meditation.
Wednesday, I went to Jesus with a different type of question. I simply asked Him, “What do you want me to know? What direction do you want me to go?”
The answer wasn’t what I expected. I thought perhaps He’d say, write another book or focus on marketing the books you’ve already written, etc. Instead, this is what I felt He told me. I jotted this down in my notebook after our “visit” was over:
“You are and always have been a creator, an insatiable learner, a spiritual messenger, one who takes the process and experience of creation and distills the principles, the lessons, the beauties of creation and shares them with others. People will gain wisdom from your efforts and experiences.
You aren’t destined to sit behind a computer figuring out how to make money all the time. You are here to experience the full range of life. Create. Paint. Take photographs. Create music. Garden. Sculpt. Shape, fashion, imagine, write, sketch, draw, travel, learn, beautify, decorate … whatever you’d like.
Reduce your time on social media and liberate yourself to create. Redeem your time.
When I asked which area to focus on… where to expand my creative pursuits, His answer was….
“Do what YOU want to do. That’s what freedom is. I’m giving you freedom. Dave is giving you freedom. You choose. I trust that whatever you’re doing or wherever you go you will be in integrity, an example, and one who shares truths. Remember you are a seeker of truth who makes truth an integral part of your life and personality thus enabling you to share that truth with others. That’s not a reminder of what you “should” be doing. That’s a reminder of who you are and who you cannot help but be.
“Explore your freedom and creativity and as you do whatever you choose, you will assimilate, distill and share truth.”
Wednesday after this conversation I went on Amazon to price art kits. After going to the gym, I stopped by the local Michael’s and looked at the various art supplies. I had intended to pursue acrylic painting. When I was young my mother exposed me to various forms of art – oil painting, acrylic painting, ceramics, drawing, etc. She enjoyed painting best. So, I thought it would be fun to pursue painting myself.
But as I walked around the store, what spoke to me were the sketch pads and the pencils. When I was young, I preferred drawing. In fact, I was pretty good as a teenager. I decided to start there. Why not start somewhere that I know I had some skills at one time? Granted, I haven’t done more than doodle for the last 34 years, but if I once had a skill there, surely it could come back with practice.
I purchased a drawing instruction book, a couple sketchbooks, some colored pencils and regular pencils, etc. I also bought some supplies to make something special for my husband’s birthday, but since it’s not until October 22 and he reads my blogs, I’ll wait to unveil that project later. 🙂
Even though I bought my art supplies on Wednesday, I didn’t actually draw anything with them until Thursday night. I’ll share my first forays into drawing in my next post.
What about you? What types of creative endeavors have you pursued in the past? What did you enjoy as a child or teen? Where there is desire, there is power… look back to your interests of the past and resurrect something that calls to you today.
