Creativity Challenge: Extemporaneous Piano

Spread the love

One of the ways I challenge myself creatively is with extemporaneous piano composition. I hook my Yamaha piano to Audacity, press record and play whatever comes. If I really want to add another level of challenge, I’ll set Facebook live to record and let it stream live.

Knowing people are watching live adds another level of pressure. I like to train myself to perform under pressure. Facebook live is a great way to do that whether you’re trying to learn to speak, present, or play music.

I haven’t done a Facebook live in a while so I decided it was time to get some “pressure practice” in.

When I sit down to play the piano extemporaneously, I never know whether something good will come out. Each one is different. Here’s a little 3-minute session I recorded live today on my Facebook wall.

This particular piece would fit well under my Meditative Melodies. They’re soothing pieces that you can relax to, sleep to, meditate to, or de-stress to. I used a grand piano with soft strings beneath for this one.

I have a collection of my better Meditative Melodies that I give away as a bonus when you get a copy of my new book, Confidence Rising! Trust Your Heart. Be Yourself. Bless Lives. It’s about my true miraculous story of big losses and amazing restoration and the priceless insights I learned along the way.
