Love, Don’t Let Me Down

Spread the love

Since I've been staying at my dad's I've been singing with my dad and cousin Jody Norris. I've always loved music. My mom had me taking piano lessons at 5 and I took lessons until I turned 17 and broke my arm in a car wreck.

I've always wanted to be able to sing in public, but the most I've sung is on a handful of occasions in a group choir at church.  The first night my dad and I went to sing at Jody's, my Dad asked me how I learned to sing like that and I said, "In the car."

My voice isn't polished by any stretch and I'm not the best at high notes, but I have a lot of fun with it and people tell me I have a unique voice and to keep on practicing. So that's what I'm doing. My dad plays the harmonica and my brother-in-law and my cousin play the guitar, and I sing. We go to a jam night on Thursday's and perform live with a group.

This is a song I discovered that was performed by Allison Moorer and Hayes Carll called "Love, Don't Let Me Down." The words fit my situation so well and I really love it.

Love, Don’t Let Me Down – Marnie & Jody

Lyrics

Man
I never been the lucky one
Watched my dreams all turning wrong
Why They left me alone, thinking, they’d come back some day

Well it turns out I was wrong
Cause Time don’t wait for anyone
And Now I stand here like a school kid hoping that it’s not too late

Woman:
Oh here goes my heart again
Foolish as it’s ever been
Always leading me somewhere that I couldn’t stay

I’m not gonna look behind
There’s nothing there I wanna find
So I stand here and face you and promise I won’t run away

Chorus:
Under the sun, ain’t nothing new
There’s lovers and leavers and moments forgotten
And dreams that don’t ever come true

And even though I’m afraid
I’m gonna stand my ground
If it’s not asking too much
Love don’t let me down

Bridge….

Man
So, here I stand in front of you
Just hoping that my best will do
I’m a good man, a loving man who just needs someone to hold

Woman
I can see it in your face
Your love can fill up this empty space
And the years up ahead don’t have to feel so damn alone

Chorus:
Under the sun, oh, there ain’t nothing new
And maybe it’s crazy to keep chasing after,
these dreams that don’t ever come true

And even though I’m afraid
I’m gonna stand my ground
And, If it’s not asking too much
Love don’t let me down

If it’s not asking too much
Love don’t let me down
