Want more freedom, joy and peace in your life? Create! Create something every single day no matter what it is. Imagine a bird with its wings clipped so it can’t fly. Picture a stallion trapped in a tiny corral or a dog on a leash. None of these creatures can do what it was born to do. How frustrated and sad they must be to be stifled!
As humans we stifle ourselves every single day. We get the urge to dance, but now isn’t the time. We wish we could sit at the piano or pick up the guitar and play, but we have too much work to do right now. We watch a child color with crayons and wish our lives were that simple.
We are born creators. Whether you enjoy cooking, decorating, sewing, crafting, dancing, coloring, painting, drawing, playing music, taking photos, gardening, renovating, writing, acting, story-telling, or something else, the desires you push down, postpone and eventually silence eventually rob you of your joy. This act of suppression wars with your inner peace. It enslaves you link-by-link with an invisible (but very real) chain.
As I’ve been pursuing my Creativity Challenge, I’m going wherever my creativity flows. My average day includes a few hours of client work. The rest of the time I’m learning new music chords, playing the piano, creating music videos, enjoying nature, taking photos, writing, drawing, cooking or playing with my new water color pens.
Everything I create isn’t something I’d want to show other people. In fact, several of the things I’ve shared over the last few days I’d have been mortified to share in the past. I know my watercolor pieces aren’t masterpieces. I honestly have no idea what I’m doing and I’d rather not. There is freedom sometimes in knowing nothing and doing whatever you want to do. Sometimes the rules just cramp your style when your objective is fun, not perfection.
The joy I have found in these water colors and my other creative endeavors is changing me. I’m happier. I feel freer, and I feel very peaceful.
The interesting thing is that the creativity I’m playing with throughout the day is bleeding over into my work. I’m making more videos for my clients. I create and mix my original music pieces into the videos. I’m learning new video creation techniques and creating music pieces for future book trailer videos, etc.
When I’m creating Pinterest pins and Instagrams for clients, I feel more like I’m playing than working. I’m enjoying every aspect of my life more.
I have a feeling I’m only seeing the beginning of what unbridled creativity does to a person’s life. I look forward to continuing to document what I’m learning along the way. I invite you to join me … sign up for my updates on the right side of this page. I really hope my vulnerable sharing will give you the courage to step more courageously into your own creativity. I hope you’ll say, “Well, if she can post that amateur water color picture all over social media, I can at least follow my own creative idea today!”
The act of creating the simplest thing bleeds over into everything else you do. It opens a divine doorway of ideas, inspiration, joy, fun and freedom! Create something today!
